EXERCISING & BLOOD SUGAR PT.2

MYTH: "STRENGTH TRAINING IS FOR BULKING BODIES"

The sound of the words Strength Training often comes off as a visualisation of a "HULK" with veins popping through their shirts.

While its fun to imagine ourselves that way, building muscles have far more important roles than just aesthetics.

Strength training is like hiring a bigger blood sugar management team, while giving your skeleton a renovation at the same time.

When you lift weights, your muscles need energy. So they reach into your bloodstream, grab some glucose and say:

“We'll take that. We've got work to do.”

The more muscle you build, the more capacity your body has to take up and store glucose.

And that's a big deal because skeletal muscle is the LARGEST organ system in the body by mass and plays a major role in handling the glucose you eat.

Think of your muscles as a giant network of glucose warehouses. The better maintained and more active those warehouses are, the less glucose may be left hanging around in your bloodstream causing trouble.

But wait—your bones are getting in on the action too!

Strength training puts healthy stress on your bones. Your bones basically get the message:

“Oh, we're lifting heavy things now? *rolls sleeves* Better make ourselves stronger.”

Over time, resistance and weight-bearing exercise can help maintain or improve bone mineral density, helping keep bones stronger.

Of course, let's not forget insulin. Strength training can improve insulin sensitivity too, meaning insulin doesn't have to stand outside your cells yelling:

“OI?! OPEN THE DOOR! WE HAVE GLUCOSE OUT HERE!”

🏋️ Lift weights → muscles use more glucose

💪 Build muscle → greater capacity for glucose uptake and storage

🔑 Improve insulin sensitivity → insulin has an easier job

🦴 Load your bones → helps support bone strength and density

📉 Bonus → better long-term blood sugar management

You're stronger than you think, and it's never too late to build a healthier body.

YOUR body.
